The images you sent through place an emphasis on the bars and restaurants – can you elaborate?
We are very pleased with the Sky Bar. It’s the “signature” for the overall casino offering some stunning views over the Olympic complex. That, together with the 80 seat restaurant and the Sports Bar that also offers food and drink, means we have all the bases covered – from a romantic meal in a contemporary setting to casual dining and hot and cold snacks. The restaurant will be open until 4.00am but the sport bar will be open around the clock and are all part of our complete package.
Aspers is very much linked with Crown in Australia… have they offered any help with the project?
Very much so! They were very helpful offering some good advice on layouts and even equipment choice. It was good - reassuring - to have them on board offering their views.
As an independent casino operator do you think that the Government is doing enough to help you?
No. Definitely not. The taxation here in the UK is too high and they still have a very inflexible attitude. Take the Aspers casino at Stratford – it’s capable of handling 14 - 15,000 visitors in a 24 hour period and we have just 150+ games to offer yet we are the biggest casino in the UK! The decision on slot numbers should be a commercial one – not set down in stone based on archaic rules. Casinos all obviously need to be controlled by legislation but there should also be fair taxation and fair competition across all gambling activities. An holistic rather than piecemeal approach is needed.
As the Olympics are literally on your doorstep is the company taking any part in the event?
We are talking to the organisers about hosting a number of receptions as we are in an ideal place to offer such facilities. We also are having discussion regarding partnering.
