SHREK THE MUSICAL Everybody’s favorite green swamp-dwelling ogre will be charming his way

to Segerstrom Center for the Arts, in the musical version of Shrek, based on the Oscar®-winning DreamWorks film. In Shrek the Musical, Shrek embarks on a delightful tale in a faraway kingdom where he and Donkey, his wisecracking sidekick, set off on a quest to reclaim the deed to his land. They encounter the height-challenged Lord Farquaad, a posse of fractured fairytale misfits and a cookie with attitude along the journey. They must also figure out a way to rescue the beautiful, yet temperamental, Princess Fiona from a tower guarded by a fire- breathing-love-sick-dragon. The motley crew creates mayhem and turns things up, down and sideways; luckily, there’s a hero on hand and it isn’t your typical handsome prince! Runs Tuesday October 4 through Sunday, October 16 at Segerstrom Center For The Arts, 600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa. TICKETS: 714.556.2787 orscfta.org

On July 2, 1982, the infamous Larry Walters (also known as “Lawnchair Larry”)

armed with a pellet gun; sandwiches, beer and a camera actually flew to an alti- tude of 16,000 feet over the city of Long Beach. He did so by attaching 45 large helium-filled weather balloons to his patio chair. His amazing feat has provided inspiration for numerous references in pop culture over the past 30 years includ- ing several copycat attempts. It has been portrayed in film and television and has now once again been repurposed for the stage in this Southern California premiere. Since coming back down to earth, Walter becomes addicted to recap- turing that authentic feeling of complete freedom. In doing so, he has become blind to the needs of his wife and son, who want the man of the house to stay earthbound, resulting in a tumultuous confrontation. RunsSaturday October 1 through Sunday, October 23 at The Chance Theatre, 5552 E. La Palma Ave., Anaheim Hills.TICKETS: 714.777.3033 orchancetheater.com
