THE REVERSED INTERVIEW:
Is this the Employer you want?

The economy and business community seem to be on a roller coaster ride that
sees no end in sight. In the Charlotte area the unemployment numbers refuse to decline. Though one company may mention hiring 100- 300 people, then a bank or large firm announces the reduction of thousands of employees! How discouraging! So how does a job seeker locate and secure a position with their ideal employer?
With so many in the job market, not only is it competitive with talented and experienced job candidates everywhere, but the job openings are a mixed bag. When counseling a job search candidate, one of my goals is to try and help that candidate match up with the best fitting em- ployer. If the job and candidate’s skills, passion and experience match, that is the first important qualifier. Of course, it is also critical that employ- er possesses the culture, work environment and integrity match to the candidate’s personality and character. The goal for both the employer and job candidate should be to be a match in as many ways as possible.
Therefore, it is important for job search candi- dates to research companies and learn as much
about a company’s business practices, how they value and treat their employees, as well as how proactive they are in business, etc. Even if

that company has no openings at the time you are looking, work on building a rapport with key people in the company. Politely request that you stay in touch and continue watching what your “target companies” are doing. (Note that you should carefully select as many prospective employers that meet your criteria, and not put “all your eggs in one basket”.) I know you need a job, so only you can decide when to accept an offer.
