What is your role at Suncoast Casino?
I am currently the Director of Gaming initially directly responsible for Slots , Tables , Food and Beverage , Cash desk and Vip Services Departments.
In order to focus more and give more attention to our core business been Gaming the direct Departmental responsibility was strategically reduced to Slots,Tables and Vip Services with strong links to Marketing and business intelligence departments.
I have been working in this Industry since 1988 (23 yrs) and have been fortunate enough in playing a key role in giving Birth to the Tsogo Sun Giant that has emerged as the leader in the South African Gaming Industry has become a way of life for me and not merely a job that needs to be done.
I could give you the standard Hr Job description answer for my designation but rather see my key roles and deliverables from an EQ based and or soft skills perspective. As director of Gaming it is my role to deliver Gaming results and unlock shareholder value through real empowerment of my Heads of Department and subsequently line Management. I do this by ensuring relationships
of mutual trust exist at all times and all members of my team and others they interdependently rely on are all aligned to the core Gaming goals and challenges.
There is no “I in Team” and as such I advocate and ensure all the Gaming Teams understand the power of departmental interdependence to ensure silo mentality and departmental territorialism is minimized in the business. There is no place in this business for arrogance and complacency as there is equally no place for bureaucracy and red tape.
The Gaming Teams under my guidance are all highly skilled and well resourced to deliver on their numerous strategies that are by design aligned to ensure the Suncoast end goals are either met and or exceeded. In summary my role is to ensure that the environment we work in is conducive to the sustainable delivery of great Gaming results.
How did you get into the industry?
I joined the Industry with the the Sun International Group in 1988 as a Lead Technician at the Wild Coast Sun. In my nine years with the Sun International Group I worked in many of their properties progressing to Gaming - Technical Manager and then to Assistant Slots Manager at the Wild Coast Sun.
