Despite the upset from manufactured dust in the atmosphere, the move from Stoneleigh 19 months earlier to the National Exhibition Centre was a great success and attracted a record number of overseas visitors from 27 countries.

The Jerseys had a great show, claiming both the Supreme Individual and the Bledisloe Trophy team of four ahead of the Holsteins. ABOVE Reserve and Exhibitor Bred Champion was Richard Bown’s third calver Richaven Goldwyn Adrienne, who like the Champion also scored EX as a second calver.

Saxelby Aaron Rosina EX95, the most respected brood cow at Castellhyfryd today. Young Rosina completes at least 10 generations averaging 90 points, seven being EX and three VG89 through Saxelby and Dalesend to Tikvah Sexation Rosina, bred by John and Yoko Lennon! Beyond this were at least three generations of Rinehart cows which dominated the Maryland and US Eastern Nationals in the late 1970s. Equally impressive is Richard Bown’s powerful Adrienne, a third generation EX averaging 92 points and all at Richaven including her Bromstead-bred maternal grand dam by Jed. In turn, her maternal grand dam was the imported cow Goldenset Inspiration Adrienne EX91 that was Reserve Champion at the National Holstein Show in 1994. Shown 11-months calved, this mighty Goldwyn has a 305 day second lactation on 2x milking of 15,754 kg at 4.5% fat and 3.1% protein (1199 CFP), is due again in February and has six ETs expected to arrive in December.

LEFT The cattle classes were kindly sponsored by Eprinex, who contributed £16,000 in prize money.
