NATIONAL ALL BREEDS SHOW

WELSH FLAG FLIES AT THE NATIONAL

As the National All Breeds Show makes its debut at The NEC, the lion’s share of the spoils go to Richaven and Wyndford but the top prize belongs to Castellhyfryd and Lliwe, as Richard Beard reports

F

ew people imagined that, as the four-year-old Castellhy- fryd Spirte Rosina stepped in to the fi rst class of the day, her young breeder Simon Davies would be right there until the end of the long battle for the Holstein Championship. Rosina’s closest rival, some seven months older, who went on to become Supreme Exhibitor Bred Champion cow, was Richaven Goldwyn Adrienne from Richard Bown. He scooped up Best Three Females and All-Britain Dam & Daughter with fi ve different animals, two of which each won a milking class and helped secure both Reserve Senior Premier Breeder and Exhibitor.

Nevertheless, overall Breed Champion and Best Udder of the show fell to the Carmarthenshire partnership of Simon and Sian Davies and Kevin and Cathy Thomas with their sparkling single entry by Cedarwal Spirte. Revealed to the nation on BBC television at this year’s Royal Welsh, where she was Supreme Dairy Cow, Rosina’s NEC coronation was slightly eclipsed by Tregibby taking the equivalent award with a Bluegrass Jersey. These two swapped places from their July meeting, giving West Wales a one-two in the fi nal Interbreed
