Holstein UK has launched a brand new service free of charge for all classifying members, ClassACT. Available right now, it can be found via the Members section of the Holstein UK website at www.holstein-uk.org

A

ll you need to get going is your Prefi x, PIN and a quick

fl ick through this simple guide to your new reports. There are also a couple of ‘Top Tips’ for easy reference once you are up and running. You will not be charged for this new service and it is another great reason and benefi t to Classify your herd.

Why was ClassACT developed?

It is well known that highly classifi ed animals have considerably higher values than their non-classifi ed counterparts and, with this is mind, Holstein UK has developed a new and

exciting web-based program to make better use of information collected by the classifi er. Using this tool, specifi c strengths and weaknesses can be identifi ed to allow more informed breeding decisions to be made so that the general conformation and productivity of the entire herd can be improved upon. Holstein UK Head Classifi er; Michael Parkinson commented “I am very pleased with the development of the ClassACT program. We have endeavoured to make it relevant to all classifying members and I feel it will prove to be an invaluable, allowing them to analyse their classifi cation results, whilst being able to rank the animals on whichever composite or linear they require. The program also compares sires and female lines within their own herd which will allow them to make better informed breeding decisions”.

The initial version of the new ClassACT tool provides a number of simple to use reports that are aimed at making the most of your valuable classifi cation data.

There will always be more features that we are sure you would like to see and we hope to use your feedback, thoughts and ideas to develop your new ClassACT tool to meet all of your Classifi cation needs in the future.

Initial testing of the ClassACT program has already received positive feedback, with top Holstein breeder, Andrew Wilson of Northshields Holsteins commenting, “ClassACT is a great way to quickly compare previous classifi cation runs to the current run to see if the herd is getting better or becoming poorer and to see what bulls to use to help improve my herd. It is especially useful to see how heifers are progressing as they are the future of the herd. I believe that it is the way forward to help improving the performance of my herd”.
