BREEDERS ACHIEVEMENTS
Arnot Ruth 43 VG88 SP LP100 Bred and owned by A R & J Whitlow
Arnot Ruth 43 is the third cow in our herd this year to achieve the 100 tonnes Gold Ribbon award and the youngest of the three having done it in 10 lactations. Ruth 43 was born in 1998. Her mother Arnot Ruth
14 BFG+80 RML, a pure British Friesian by Grove Image, was born in 1988 and her grandmother, Arnot Ruth 2 VG83 RML80 by Liscabank Gryndol 2, in 1978 so she completes three generations of long-lived cows with two things in common - exceptionally hard feet and well-attached fore udders. When Ruth 43 was born, she was very fashionable as she was a first cross Holstein being by the popular bull at that time, Comestar Leader. She set off her
career with a moderate amount of milk, producing 6510 kg in her first lactation. Time went by and, as she was not the tallest of cows, she went out of fashion but her lactation totals built up and she kept on milking, producing a 305-day high of 10,916 kg with her fifth record. And now, guess what, she is right bang in fashion again being a cow with good conception rates and a long life. She has a milking daughter in the herd by Dixie-Lee Aaron, Arnot Ruth 57 EX92-3E, who has just made 70 tonnes in her seventh lactation and is the dam of a VG87-3yr Comestar Stormatic daughter milking. Ruth 43 only has two other daughters, an in-calf heifer by the homebred Shottle son Arnot Quest which is due soon to sexed Matson and a yearling by Mr Sam. Her eleventh calf is a bull by Woodmarsh Topshot which we have registered. She still looks as well as ever and continues to be one of the first in the parlour. The photograph was taken just after we dried her off after her tenth lactation.
Janet Whitlow Stoke Ultimate Karen G79 Lp100
Bred and owned by W L Edwards & Co Stoke Ultimate Karen is our first cow to reach the landmark of 100 tonnes and she’s done it in nine lactations. A daughter of Pen-Col Ultimate Dream, she has had four daughters so far and three of them are still in our herd. Stoke Ultimate Karen is currently due to calve in September. She is a trouble free cow, with
a low cell count and is always first into the milking parlour. Our herdsman David Bayliss is pleased to have reached this milestone with this cow.

Brinkworth Dora EX93-7E LP100
Bred and owned by Joe and Ro Collingborn
Brinkworth Dora’s pedigree is full of longevity. She is 63% Holstein by the French sire Dalmatian. Her dam Brinkworth Diana VG86 completed eight lactations and was sired by Glebewin Mayday, who did a good job providing longevity in our herd. Dora’s grand dam Brinkworth Dynasty did six lactations, while her great grand dam Brinkworth Dinny did nine. Dora herself has just calved for the twelfth time with a fine heifer sired by Brinkworth Bede, a homebred Shottle son.
