BREEDERS ACHIEVEMENTS Kingarth Petula 10 EX91-4E LP100

Bred and owned by J D Barbour

Kingarth Petula 10 EX91-4E recently reached the 100 tonnes milestone during her twelfth lactation. She’s a cow big in frame with lovely skin quality, scoring 97 for Legs & Feet, helping her get in our very small wooden cubicles. Add to this her high constituents; over 11 lactations she averages 4.40% fat and 3.42% protein. She is by Cook Farm Starbuck Flip out of a GP daughter of Meadowlake Rorae Matt. The Petula’s now form a significant part of our herd. Petula

10 has bred an 88 point sixth calf Cogent Lucky daughter, an Outside daughter scored 86 points and a third calf Convincer daughter at 90 points. There are also Dragon and Matson heifers in the pipeline. Kingarth Petula 10 is a cow worth her place in any herd.

Yeovale Dependable Enid EX90-3E SP LP100 Bred and owned by Yeo Vale Farm Ltd

Yeovale Dependable Enid, having been classified EX in 2005, 2008 and 2011 and now having given in excess of 100 tonnes of milk, has been given a new lease of life. Her first seven lactations averaged 13,600 kg, at well over 4% fat and 3% protein, produced in a conventional herringbone parlour. However, her eighth lactation now nearing completion has produced 20,000 kg via robot milkers. Lactations have averaged 16 months, but as in the case of this last lactation, we saw no point in serving a cow who was giving 60 litres a day. She happily visits the robots three or four times a day, enjoys her feed, lets down her milk and we hardly know that she is there – a truly Dependable cow. Her sire was Moet Deidre Dependable by To-Mar Blackstar and

her dam was by Fisher-Place Mandingo and out of a Crewilpool Emporer 2 cow, with a Grove Speculator grand dam. Already having produced over 100 tones and due to calve again in October, we see no reason why she will not be around for a few years to come.

John N Westaway Reule Barbara 12

Bred and owned by D F, J M & B D Palmer The exquisitely grey Reule Barbara 12 VG86 LP100, 4* is pictured in her fourteenth lactation this summer, after reaching the 100 tonnes milestone in the spring. She was born on 18 December 1994 by Wiseburrow Status out of Reule Barbara 3, who was a pure British Friesian tenth lactation cow sired by Sharcombe Flor. Barbara 12’s strengths lie in her exceptional fertility and legs & feet. She even managed to get in calf first time following an excruciating incident when she trod on a nail and had to have a front claw amputated during her tenth lactation, an ordeal which would have finished off many a younger cow!

She also has an incredible ability to breed us long living quality daughters and hasn’t missed yet, hence her 4* Brood Cow status which is set to rise further. She has bred five VG daughters, two 70 tonnes daughters and a further two daughters with over 50 tonnes. In fact, we have registered an incredible 25 descendants from her in her lifetime (without using ET), the latest of which was her February 2011 Leif daughter.
