Jack High. The Final Month. With the Greyhound Ford Hyndburn & District Bowling League entering the final month of the season the merit competi- tion, sponsored by the Local Herald, is looking close in a number of Divisions.

In the First Division, J. Whittaker of the Globe has a 25 point lead over team mate W. Finn who in turn has a 5 point lead over another Globe player, J. Eborall. Three points further behind in fourth place is C. Rammel of Rishton Free Gardeners.

A man is sitting on the road-side looking unhappy. A passer-by sees his glum face and asks what the problem is. ‘I’ve locked myself out of my car,’ replies the man. ‘No problem,’ replies the passer - by. ‘Let me try rubbing my backside on the door.’ The motorist is perplexed but reckons there’s no harm in letting the man try. The passer-by puts his bum to the car and slowly rubs it up and down the door. Suddenly, the lock clicks open. ‘That’s amazing!’ says the motorist. ‘How did you do it?’ ‘Easy,’ replies the passer-by. ‘I’m wearing khaki trousers.’( Car key trousers ) Ohhh no. That's in the running for the worst joke in the history of the Herald.

the battle for second place is closely contested by M. Burtonwood of Whalley and A. Andrews of Sydney St.

Towler of Waddington is only 2 points infront of fourth placed A. Mercer of Salesbury and 4 points further back in fifth is P. Bradley of Rishton Con. In
