LONDON STREET BRASSERIE A special treat for party organisers
With the party season getting into full swing, one award-winning Reading restaurant is offering party organisers a Christmas present all of their own. The deal means that anyone booking a festive celebration for colleagues or friends at the fabulous London Street Brasserie will be in line for a special choice of treats.
The restaurant is situated in the heart of the town, right beside the River Kennet, and is owned by top chef Paul Clerehugh – judged one of the country’s top three chefs in a hotly- contested cook-off at last month’s The Restaurant Show at Earls Court. Clerehugh, who also owns the Crooked Billet at Stoke Row, said: “Christmas is all about celebrating and we thought it would be lovely to say a special thank you and reward party organisers with a present of their own. For every celebration party booked, we’re offering a choice of gifts, from dinner for two to champagne or chocolates, or even some Christmas shopping vouchers as a little treat. This is such a fantastic place for a party, we want to ensure as many people as possible come and enjoy it.“
Since opening in 2000, the London Street Brasserie has won both critical acclaim and Michelin recognition, and been voted Restaurant of the Year. Restaurant reviewers have been lavish with their praise, including the notoriously hard to please Egon Ronay, who named it as one of his top 10 UK restaurants. Clerehugh is keen to point out however, that just because the restaurant has Michelin accolades and a raft of awards, it doesn’t mean you have to dig deep into your pockets.

The Brasserie has a well-deserved reputation for fabulous food at great prices. Especially popular are its “legendary“ business lunches – a speedy two-course set menu for just £15, available from 12 midday to 7pm in the evenings.
Whenever possible, Clerehugh sources his ingredients from within the Thames Valley, and is self-sufficient in lamb, mutton and pork, which he raises on his own 15 acres of farmland. Other local suppliers include Hungerford’s Doves Farm Foods and the award-winning Chiltern Valley Vineyard and Winery, near Henley on Thames, which makes a fine contribution to the restaurant’s extensive wine list.
“Despite our Michelin recognition, our dishes are non-fussy, simple and uncomplicated,“ said Clerehugh. “We focus on high-quality ingredients, using as many local suppliers as we can, and the emphasis is on producing excellent food which keeps our customers coming back for more. We’re very proud to be independent and privately owned, we love the fact that the restaurant is all about personality and the love of the food, making it the perfect place to entertain and celebrate with friends.“
Favourites on the ’Specials Board’ include shepherds pie, brill with mussels, treacle tart and custard; while dishes on the set menu include potted foie gras and chicken liver parfait; 28-day aged sirloin steak; oriental crispy pork belly; and lemon tart with blueberry compote.
There’s also an extensive a la carte menu and the festive season has seen the launch of a special winter party menu with three courses at just £34.
There’s no minimum or maximum size for party bookings. The London Street Brasserie can accommodate up to 80 for exclusive events, while bigger groups can be equally well looked after at the Crooked Billet. The pub can be booked exclusively for incredible Christmas parties. Up to 80 guests can be accommodated inside the pub or up to 150 guests if using the pubs luxury heated marquee.
With such an extensive menu, an ideal location within walking distance of the station and town centre, and such great hospitality, it’s easy to see why this year’s party season promises to be one to remember.
What the experts say:
One reviewer who dined at London Street Brasserie commented: “The food is brilliantly executed, but it also boasts real soul and flair. It’s not food just for effect, it is food with personality, the personality of an eloquent, well-dressed friend – precisely the sort of company you want to keep for lunch.“
