ways of encouraging their peers to think about possible future careers where use of a foreign language is considered desirable and an asset valued by employers.

Moore Blatch

Ten solicitors from Moore Blatch have been recognised as ’leaders in their fields’ in the forthcoming Chambers UK 2012 Directory.

The legal directory, which is widely recognised as the ’bible’ for selecting law firms, ranks firms following independent interview- based research with peers and clients.

Those recognised included: David Charlesworth for agricultural and rural affairs, Carla Brown for private client, David Thompson for transport and regulatory matters, Katherine Maxwell for

employment, Mark Osgood for restructuring and insolvency, Paul Whitaker for dispute resolution and Roger Bailey for corporate/ mergers and acquisitions.

The personal injury arm of the firm, Moore Blatch Resolve, also received recognition for its work, with Damian Horan highlighted as an expert for personal injury work and Anne Cassidy and Tim Spring for clinical negligence.

Commenting on the firm’s performance, managing partner David Thompson said: “I am delighted that Chambers continue to recognise the exceptional work of our solicitors. These recommendations are testament to the dedication, commitment and outstanding levels of service we offer our clients“.

The Chambers UK 2012 directory showing individual rankings will be published in October.

Parkes continued: “Our aim is to provide a bespoke and holistic service to the rural and agricultural sector bringing together the wide range of legal specialisms we have as a firm. All of the members of the team have a genuine enthusiasm and interest in rural and agricultural law.

It helps that we all come

from farming or country backgrounds, so we are able to understand the underlying issues involved in this sector.“

Members of the Agricultural Law Association, Country Land and Business Association and the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners, the newly-formed team has been instrumental in setting up the Agricultural Law Association South Central regional group, which held its inaugural meeting at Sparsholt College earlier this month.

New ruling for valuations

Following a landmark ruling in the Court of Appeal, buy-to-let purchasers can no longer seek to rely on their bank’s valuation and will need to obtain their own when purchasing a property, to protect themselves against losses caused by a negligent overvaluation.

Moore Blatch professional negligence expert Marianne Jarvis said that the decision makes a marked distinction between owner-occupier and buy-to-let purchasers and overturns a former High Court decision. “The decision has serious implications for buy-to- let purchasers, failure to obtain their own report could mean that, even if a valuation is found to be negligent, they will be unable to pursue a claim.“
