Halling has too much fun for just a day
HALLING’s Fun Weekend has proved so successful it is being transformed into a Fun Week. A concert at the community centre
will kick-start the week on Friday, Au- gust 19, and it will end with the Fun Day in Lower Halling Recreation Ground on Sunday, August 28. Events will include riverside walks for children, games nights, a pictorial walk through Halling past and present, plus much more. Trevor Reynolds, vice-chairman of
the organising committee, said: “The second concert in the community cen- tre will be held on the evening of Sat- urday August 27 and Saturday is also our Heritage Day when a series of
events will be held around the Bishop’s Palace and New Bell Inn. “Details of our concerts will be un-

fancy dress parade from Halling School to the recreation ground where there will be the usual arena entertain- ments, tug-of-war, birds of prey display, dance groups, pony rides and numer- ous sideshows. A firework finale will complete the day at about 9pm. “Just for the day we will be relaxing border controls for any of our friends from Snodland who would like to join us,” joked Trevor.
Local news for Snodland and Halling Craft day success
FERNLACE Craft Group held a “highly successful” craft day at Snodland Community Centre. Started in 1990 as a lace-
group for ladies who made bobbin lace on a pillow, it ex- panded to include people who enjoyed a variety of crafts. “We started a craft day in
2003 for lace makers and with only lace suppliers in atten- dance,” explained chairman Angela Hadfield. “We now include all sorts of
crafts people and varied craft suppliers. “We have lace, patchwork,
wood turners, cards, scrap booking and various craft items here. “We have also introduced a
small workshop where our guests can learn a new stitched craft, which is very popular.” Guest speaker was Pat Trott,
who spoke about ‘Armenian Needle Lace – My Mother’s Heritage’. She showed lace items and demonstrated nee- dle lace. The community centre was
the charity for this year’s craft day and in previous years do- nations have been made to the Heart of Kent Hospice, Demelza House, Maidstone Hospital League of Friends and the 1st Snodland Scout Group. The group meets every month in Larkfield.
