Jenny and Tiga team up for mountain race
A WEST Malling sportswoman didn’t let her injuries stop her after a car accident. Unable to continue with the track and field athletics, especially the high jump, that she loved, Jenny Brown soon excelled at a new sport. With the help of her beagle Tiga, Jenny discovered cani-cross – a version of cross-country where the dog runs in front, attached to the owner. Jenny, amember of Ashford Athletic Club, started run-
ning with Tiga after she was given the pet for her 50th birthday, three years after her accident. The pairmade their debut for the British team last year
and won fourth place in the European championships. They will be competing in the nine-day Trophy of the Mountains cani-cross challenge in August to raise funds for national charity Canine Partners, which provides spe- cially trained assistance dogs to peoplewith disabilities. The event includes 12 races, including three at night,
across five villages in the French Alps at altitude of up to 2,200metres. The times of the races are set to best suit the dogs. Jenny said: “This is an exciting challenge for me and I have never done anything like it before. Cani- cross is an excellent sport for anyone who likes running and has a dog.” To support Jenny, visit www.justgiv-

River wall plan SMURFIT Kappa Townsend Hook plans to replace a section of river wall by installing a new sheet pile and flood defence section along the River Medway at its Snodland site. A spokesman for the com-
pany said: “The existing con- crete wall was designed and constructed by engineers in the 1950s and has stood the test of time very well, but erosion is continuous and it is prudent to renew the defences at this time. “During 2010 the company re- placed another section of the riverwall, but it collapsed with- out warning leaving the site ex- posed to risk of flooding.”
