Pat is still going strong at 105 Charity wants
ONE of Malling’s most senior citizens has just celebrated her 105th birthday. Pat Pritchard , who lives at
St Martin’s residential home in Larkfield, can remember seeing Zeppelins going over London and hearing about the sinking of the Titanic. Born in Harrietsham, she
had two sisters and a brother, and their mother would drive them into Maidstone in a pony and trap. She married Leonard, who worked as a chauf-
feur and gardener and later for an engineering firm, and they lived in Teapot Lane,Aylesford, for many years. Leonard was a Desert Rat during WWII and Pat worked as a hospital dietician. The couple had a very long and happy marriage but had no children. After she was widowed, Pat
worked in the tea bar at Preston Hall Hospital when she was well into her 80s. Pat’s closest relative, her niece Judith Gray, of Ley- bourne, said: “She was very much a tradi- tional housewife
and was very happy looking after her home and her husband. She has always been a very private person.” Long life seems to run in the family as Pat’s sis-
ters reached the ages of 98 and 96. Her family organised a special strawberry and
cream tea at the home for Pat’s big daywhen pride of place went to a message from the Queen.
“Outstanding teaching” observed at Holmesdale Continued from page one
observed, particularly in project based learning, which is the innovative curriculum model fol- lowed by all year 7 and 8 students at the school. In general, inspectors found that the curriculum, especially at key stage 3, waswellmatched to stu- dents’ needs and interests. The team found that “the school cares for and supports studentswell in their personal develop- ment, and provides them with effective academic and personal guidance. The students’ positive re- lationships with their teachers and their peers are demonstrated by their good behaviour around the school.” Mrs Campbell said; “Holmesdale is a very close-
knit school community and Ofsted has recognised what great students we have here.” Since her arrival at the 914-pupil school in Sep- tember 2010, Mrs Campbell has set staff and stu- dents some ambitious and challenging targets. Ofsted recognised this, saying: “Students make good progress in lessons and enjoy learning.” The team considered that to improve even fur-
ther, the school should raise achievement in maths by making lessons more challenging and exciting, make teaching better still, and develop students’ independent learning skills in the sixth form. ForMr Hobson , this was his 10th and final Of- sted inspection, as he retires in July.

to expand A CHARITY which provides work and training for disabled people is planning to expand its base at a business park and provide a café for nearby firms. MCCH Society Ltd recently relocated its head office, to Her- mitage Court in Hermitage Lane,Maidstone. It currently runs a mobile catering service called tuck- bytruck, selling snacks to local businesses. The project has been operat-
ing from Britannia Business Park at Quarry Wood, Ayles- ford, but needs to move into bigger premises. MCCH and Gallagher Proper-
ties Ltd have asked Tonbridge and Malling Council for ap- proval for an extension to Her- mitage Court to provide a two-storey supported employ- ment unit, including a café, and offices, car parking and land- scaping. The applicants say the char-
ity’s current premises are too small and unsuitable and the development would be “a mod- est extension to a well-estab- lished business centre to meet the needs of an existing occu- pier”.
