colt was “absolutly fi ne going into the race and not fi ne coming out of it.” Animal Kingdom returned to Fair Hill a bit stiff and thus the colt was taken to the New Bolton Research Cen- ter for diagnostic work. Radiographs indicated a small fracture to his left hind cannon bone. Animal Kingdom returned to New Bolton for follow up radiographs the last week of June. “At that point, we can fi gure out when he can return to training,” said Panagot who added, “everyone is pretty confi dent that he’ll be fi ne in the long run.” Kevin Plank and Sagamore Farm had their
fi rst Triple Crown runner in this year’s Bel- mont. Monzon ran well for trainer Ignaxio Correas and jockey Jose Lezcano, but clipping hooves with Animal Kingdom early on in the race not only interfered with Animal King- dom’s race, it interfered with Monzon’s, and the colt fi nished ninth. Preakness winner Shackleford fi nished fi fth at the Belmont for owners Michael Laugger and Bill Cubbedge. Long shot (20-1) Ruler On Ice, owned by George and Lori Hall, won the Belmont.

Horses Back at the Anne Arundel Fair
Maybe Anne Arundel County offi cials are getting wind that they are known as the “least equine-friendly” county in Maryland? On September 18, horse exhibitions will fi nally return to the Anne Arundel County Fair dur- ing an “Equine Play Day” and horse show. T e event was designed to reintroduce horses to the county fair, where they have not been show- cased since 2007. T e day will include 15 dif- ferent classes based on nonsubjective criteria. www.equiery.com When the Prince George’s County harness
track, owned at that time by Cloverleaf Enter- prises, Inc., fi led for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2009, the Maryland Jockey Club, the Maryland T oroughbred Horsemen’s Association, and the Maryland Horse Breeders Association were the beleaguered track’s largest creditors, with over $1.7 million owed to the T oroughbred inter- ests by the Standardbred interests, mostly for simulcasting rights. After the bankruptcy fi l- ing, the T oroughbred groups proceeded to sue the Standardbred groups to get paid, and the Standardbred groups countersued the T or- oughbred groups for charges such as antitrust violations. It even got personal, with Cloverleaf suing their former president, Tom Chuckas, who was now president of the Maryland Jockey Club, for breach of contract and tortuous in- terference. Oh, happy times. (And this is why the general media and the Maryland legislature have the impression that the “horse industry just can’t work together.” Never mind that the nonracing interests work together just fi ne.) T e resolution, approved by the courts on
T ursday, May 19, 2011, would give the T or- oughbred interests $200,000 in cash,

Rosecroft’s 20% share in an off -track betting entity. It is expected that ultimately these shares in this off -track betting entity will fully continued ...
