Samantha the Horseback Rider Bonnie Caden, 7, Bethesda
Once there was a girl named Samantha. She loved to ride horses and
every day after school she would walk to the stable next door and go horseback riding. But she did not have her own horse. She begged her mom to buy her a horse after school ended. Her mom said yes! Samantha was so happy she could not stop saying, “T ank you!” to her
mom. T e next day Samantha and her mom went out to buy a horse. Samantha could not decide which horse to buy, they all were really beau- tiful. Finally she found a perfect horse. She was a thoroughbred. She named her horse Snowball. Snowball and Samantha were perfect pals. Samantha rode Snowball
every day. She really wanted to race so she took lessons to learn how. Finally, Samantha and Snowball were ready to run in a race. T ey were really excited! When they were lining up at the gate, Samantha had a funny feeling that she would win. T en she heard 3, 2, 1, Go! She was in fi rst place! She felt good, but another horse was gaining on her. She told Snowball to go faster. T e fi nish line was a half mile away. “Keep going” she said to Snowball. Finally she reached the fi nish line. She came in fi rst place! Samantha was so excited. She wanted to get her medal right away but everybody wanted her autograph. She got off Snowball and led her to the person who gave her the golden medal. Her parents kept screaming over the really loud noise, “Come over here,
sweety!” Finally she rode over to her parents. T ey said “We have another big surprise for you, Snowball is going to have a baby!” Samantha thought about it. “Can I keep it Mom?”, she said. Mom said “Yes, you may. We were also thinking, do you want to move to a farm where we can raise horses, and you could ride horses whenever you want, and be in as many horse shows you want?” Samantha asked, “How would we get the horses there?” Her parents said, “No problem, we bought a two-horse trailer!” Samantha’s parents started to hook up the two horse trailer to their truck. Finally Samantha said, “I do want to move” and she rode Snowball over to the autographing area and gave lots of autographs. Finally it was time to go home. Samantha jumped off Snowball and led her to the trailer. She had to give her treats to get in. She locked the trailer door, and together her family went to their house to pack up all their things. T e moving truck was already there. “Off we go” said Dad, and we were on our way. Just 20 miles to go. When they arrived at their new farm, the fi rst thing Samantha did was take Snowball out of the trailer and put her in the stall. After giving her a treat, she thought about what a good life they would have together as a big family. T e End.
