Our recent visit to the Groen-Direkt plant fair in Boskoop provided further evidence (if that were required) of the colossal global market place that plants represent. Over 3,000 different varieties were on display for immediate sale to the retail plant sector in both Holland and further afield. It is clear that much of the plant material you now see in the UK has its origins in Europe and around the globe. We are reminded of this by the publication in this issue of how an Australian- based marketer has created its own brand and style of plant development. In fact, with the advance report on Plantarium also squeezed into this edition, you might be thinking this is

National Plant Show we can report on record levels of retail plant sales for spring 2011; many of the UK nurseries and growers that we talk to have reported a fine start to the year. The stagnant economy is breeding an even greater desire to ‘decorate’ the outdoor room; plants can achieve this and in a very cost effective manner. There is huge anticipation at the HTA in advance of National Plant Show on June 28-29, which we share
