Elisabeth and Garry McCauley with their children

Tribute Fund honours loving mum

When Elisabeth McCauley passed away with breast cancer last year, her husband Garry wanted to celebrate her life and honour her memory, and knew a Pink Ribbon Tribute Fund would be the perfect way. Garry set up the fund online, and asked family and friends to donate money which would help

fund research into the disease. Shortly after setting it up, family and friends had donated over £2,000, which meant that they could choose to put the money towards a particular project under Campaign’s Adopt a Project scheme. They chose a project based at Newcastle University which looked at how a particular molecule

is involved in the spread of the disease, something that was close to their hearts. Garry said: “Over the eight years that Elisabeth suffered, it was the spread of the disease which

kept occurring. I hope that by supporting research into this area, we can find better treatments and a cure in memory of Elisabeth.”

Occasions made more special

Celebrating your special occasion with Campaign is a great way to raise money for breast cancer research. Frances McGibbney was diagnosed with

breast cancer at the age of 36. She celebrated her 40th birthday last year with Campaign by asking friends and family to make a donation in lieu of gifts, raising almost £4,000. Frances said: “When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I didn’t know

what the future held for me. Reaching my 40th birthday and celebrating with the people I love was the best present I could have received. “I hope that the donation made will go some way to ensuring other

women can experience the happiness and fun that I had on my special 40th birthday.” You can celebrate any special occasion with Campaign,

from weddings to birthdays. Instead of asking guests to donate in lieu of gifts, you could also hold a pink fundraising party or even give pink ribbon pin badges as gifts.

Changes to legacy giving

A change to the rate of inheritance tax for people leaving a gift to charity in their Will has been announced by the Government. In the recent Budget, Chancellor George Osborne announced that the rate of inheritance tax is to be reduced for anyone leaving ten per cent or more of their estate to charity from 6 April 2012. In this instance, the rate of inheritance tax will fall from 40 per cent to 36 per cent. The changes are designed to help supporters

who have chosen to leave a gift to charity in their Will and encourage more people to give money to the causes they support. Campaign receives a number of gifts each

year through legacies, and thanks to supporters who have left a gift to the charity in their Will, we are able to fund future research into breast cancer.
