Time well spent Registered Charity No. 205846
St Agnes and its surrounding villages offer an insight into Cornwall’s mining past, there are many old tin & copper engine houses to be seen throughout the area, and this part of Cornwall is ideal for walking holidays and exploring the rugged northern coastline. The cliffs and coves and the mixture of wildlife make it particularly attractive to visitors. Turtles, sunfish, porpoises and dolphins are sometimes seen in addition to the more common seals and seabirds. There are many attractive walks along the coastal footpaths and inland. One sight not to be missed in St Agnes is the famous row of ‘Stippy-Stappy sea captains’ cottages. There is also a free museum on the edge of the town and the free car parking makes it an even more attractive selection for a Day Out.
Perranporth. Pretty much everything in this resort is tied in with the sea. On the beach or in the ocean there is surfing, snorkelling, sailing and generally splashing around. Simple pleasures to be achieved everyday, so the local authority keeps the beaches & water clean.
twice a day. There are hundreds of rock pools to search for creatures, and caves once haunted by smugglers and miners, as well as the tidal pool at Chapel Rock. The lifeguards patrol during the summer season for your safety. Needless to add the social scene, food & drink are available and the accommodation diverse.
The ancient oratory of St Piran is buried in the lonely dunes. St Piran is the patron saint of Cornwall. He arrived on the coast, from Ireland, in the 6th century and built a small chapel where he preached to the Celts. This chapel is reputed to be the oldest on the mainland of Britain with its four walls still standing. The people loved him and the old tinners were given a day off with pay on March 5th, and every March 5th since huge celebrations take place all over Cornwall. On the nearest Sunday to this date, people gather in their hundreds on the dunes and march to the oratory, with St Piran flags of black and white in abundance.
