Scenic trips are available to places such as Trelissick Gardens, Frenchman’s Creek and Feock. A pleasant 20 minute boat trip across the water from Falmouth, you will also find St Mawes and the picturesque Roseland Peninsula with everything for the outdoor enthusiast, from sandy coves, tranquil beaches and breathtaking cliffs to pretty villages and hamlets. St Anthony Lighthouse marks the entrance to the Carrick Roads and warns ships off the infamous Manacle Rocks.
Be sure to make a date in your diary to visit and sample the atmosphere during one of the many cosmopolitan events that take place throughout the year in Falmouth, such as Falmouth Oyster Festival (October), Fal River festival (May), Falmouth Week including the Tall Ships race (August) and the Christmas festival.
Discover a myriad of pavement cafes, creek side bars, specialist shops, galleries, organised boat trips and water sports, waterside walks and panoramas. Key visitor sights include Pendennis Castle (Cornwall’s largest fortress), National Maritime Museum Cornwall, Falmouth Art Gallery, a variety of public gardens and the Princess Pavilion Theatre.
Public transport links make any visit simple. During the summer months for example, a Park & Float / Park & Ride service links Ponsharden (1mile from the town centre) with the town centre. On the trains, the Maritime Line links Falmouth to the Cathedral city of Truro along one of the prettiest branch lines in the country. Recent duelling of the track has provided a more frequent service. When in town, the Falmouth Explorer Bus 400 connects the town centre to Falmouth’s beaches and attractions, while daily boat trips from Truro (May to September) make for a scenic and memorable way to reach the town via the Fal River.
Travelling further west toward Helston at Mawnan Smith don’t miss Glendurgan Gardens lying in a valley with it’s marriage of man and nature. There are fine trees and shrubs, walled and water gardens, and a wooded valley which runs down to the tiny village of Durgan on the river. You can lose yourself in the Maze or just stand and stare at the beauty around you. Wander up the river and you will come to Gweek where there is a Seal Sanctuary.
