Event inspired by Bearsted nan


A BEARSTED resident suffering from Alzheimer’s has been the in- spiration for a charity sports event this summer. Keen athletes will take part in a tough 36-hour endurance chal-


lenge from Dublin to Snowdon, to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society. David Bedford, whose grandmother Eunice suffers from the disease, came up with the idea and planned the route. He invited athletes from around the UK – and even people from


New Zealand wanted to participate. The ‘Trip To Remember’ starts in Dublin with a 45-mile bike ride


to Arklow, followed by a 90-mile trip across the Irish Sea in a surf rowboat. Upon arriving in Porthmadog, the last challenge will be a 15-mile hike to the top of Snowdon. Mr Bedford said: “I am so proud of how my Nanna and Grandad


have faced their challenge over the past 10 years and I hope that with such a strong team around me I will be able to face mine.”
