Overwhelming support in last year’s Mardi Gras themed fayre
BEARSTED and Thurnham Car- nival and Fayre continues to go from strength to strength, with a jam-packed day of activities planned for this year’s event on Saturday June 25. Now in its 31st year, the theme
of the traditional village fayre is ‘magic’, with visitors and stall- holders invited to dress up and join in the fun. Fayre president Pat Marshall
said: “We try to think of a new theme every year, and this year’s offers a variety of ideas. Magic could include Peter Pan,Aladdin, Merlin, even Harry Potter. It’s a very wide sphere.” The occasion is one of the few
fayres still boasting a lively carni- val procession with decorated floats and carnival princesses. The fayre helps raise thousands
of pounds for local charities, or- ganisations and good causes. This year’smain charity is theV Team, who provides gardening, decorating, DIY and one-off practical tasks for the elderly and disabled. The V Team is made up of volunteers who enjoy working in a small, friendly team and were proud winners of the Queen’s Golden JubileeAward 2003. The family occasion boasts
over 70 stalls, selling goods ranging from freshly baked
