Local people help celebrate wedding with a right royal ‘do’
Standing room only in church
THE Red Lion pub at Lenham started off a day of royal wedding celebrations with a breakfast, which sold out even before the ad had appeared! The projected TV screen in the village church was a great suc-
cess, with many people attending who had never before set foot in the building. It was a standing room only affair! People brought picnics to the Square and in the afternoon chil-
dren enjoyed the freedom of the village centre on their bikes, skates and scooters. And after lunch, people who had watched the ceremony on television at home came down to the Square for a stroll and a chat.

Hollingbourne party a winner!
IT was originally intended to be just a family gathering but in the end most of Hollingbourne turned out for a party to celebrate Prince William’s marriage to Kate Middleton. Organiser Karen Fielding said: “Iwanted to do something for the children – and it just snow- balled.” A car park next to The
Dirty Habit pub was an ideal setting for the get-together, which attracted about 80 adults and children. Karen said: “It was fantas-
tic. They were still there at seven in the evening. “Theywantmetodoone
next year for the Queen’s dia- mond jubilee. Everyone had so much fun that I’m seri- ously considering it!”
Slowly does it! MORE than 100 people from Rhodewood Close, Redsells Close andMonkdown joined in a day of celebrations in Downswood. Festivities kicked off with games, after which everyone tucked into a wedding feast. Competitions followed, which in- cluded the slowest bike race and egg and spoon race. Local business donated prizes
for a raffle, which included a meal for four people and a spray tan, and the Potted Garden plant nurs- ery donated a child’s gardening box.
Event organiser Amanda McKenna said everyone had an “amazing time”.

Grace and Archie ‘tie knot’
YOUNGSTERS at Pennies Day Nursery at PKC Holiday Club, Newnham Court, got into the royal wedding spirit – if a lit- tle early – with their own ‘wedding’. Seven-year-olds Grace and Archie (below) ‘tied the knot’ at the Holiday Club on April 18 in a celebration at- tended by 24 others, including brides- maids, best man and officiating clergy. The whole event was caught on camera
and followed by a reception in the gar- den.
Michaela Stone, joint head of Pennies,
said: “Thiswas a really popular day and we made sure everyone had fun and got involved. The children found out how many different people contribute to a successful wedding day and how much work everyone has to do.”
