FAMILIES ARE LEARNING ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP AND FOOD PRODUCTION.

“While the funding we received from the Victoria Foundation is limited, it has seeded an incredibly inspiring mentorship program,” says Phoebe Dunbar, Kludahk President.

“The impact is already significant, and our growing season has just begun. Our growers will learn and share so many facets of producing and harvesting food. The active learning and mentorship is already building community.”

ENVIRONMENT GRANT KLUDAHK OUTDOORS CLUB

1 245

For over 24 years the Kludahk Outdoors Club has partnered with community education groups to promote natural history, environmental studies, and ethno botany. The Club also mentors hundreds of Victoria and Sooke residents on their journey to becoming voluntary stewards of the land. All this takes place in a community allotment garden that includes 65 individual plots and one large community plot to grow food for others.

Kludahk’s sustainability project will collaborate with Sooke Region Food Chi Society and T’Sou-ke Nation whose visions and goals are similar – to provide opportunities for farmers, new farmers, families and T’Sou-ke Nation Membership to grow food year round in an effort to benefit health and well-being.

The Victoria Foundation is proud to be a part of this unique partnership between Sooke Food Chi Sun River Allotment Gardens and T’Sou-ke Nation Ladybug greenhouse that will engage more than 200 families. The collaboration will teach environmental stewardship and produce and distribute food for those in need, while at the same time reduce the environmental footprint, provide leadership, and minimize poverty, loneliness and alienation.
