POWER IN NUMBERS A MESSAGE FROM OUR BOARD CHAIR AND CEO

Looking back over 2010 we see a time of cautious optimism – signs of gradual economic recovery and a renewed hope for possibilities. Over the past year, the Victoria Foundation has been a hub of community activity – evident in the increased number of funds, number of grants, approval of new and revised policies, and a return on investment of 9.7%. With donations and bequests received totalling over $10 million and hundreds of local charitable organizations benefitting from more than $9.7 million in funding, last year was testament to the efficacy of long-term philanthropy.

At the time of publishing, we find ourselves almost half way through 2011 in a year of celebration as we acknowledge the Foundation’s 75th anniversary. We reflect proudly upon the Foundation’s past, applaud the present and look eagerly towards the possibilities the future holds for our organization and our community. We continue to build on our significant accomplish- ments and seize opportunities to advance work already in progress. We also look forward to the many promising initiatives coming our way.

Steve McKerrell, Board Chair

Sandra Richardson, CEO

Since its establishment in 1936, the Victoria Foundation has impacted thousands of projects locally, across the province and beyond, granting more than $100 million. Imagine that from an initial $20 and a great vision! The birds-eye view we have of the region means we understand what a community is and what it requires to succeed. This is why our grants are geared to

strengthen a broad range of areas from community services, education, the arts, heritage and culture to health and recreation, the environment and more.

The view we have for our community involves identifying long-term challenges and opportunities, and investing in sustainable solutions. Our work helps our community become more resilient and capable.

Ten years ago, the Victoria Foundation had only three employees and total assets under management valued at just over $25.5 million. Since that time, our staff team has grown to 14 full and part-time members and our total assets have increased 590%, to nearly $180 million.

At the Board level, we are sad to say good-bye to an individual who served us well for many years, Marc Owen-Flood. We thank Marc for his service and commitment and wish him well. New to the Board, we welcome Dick Izard, whom we look forward to working with in the years ahead.

As we move forward we will continue to search for effective community solutions, bearing in mind that creating desired change is often a lengthy process. Having your on-going support is fundamental to our success and it always has been. We would like to thank all of our donors past and present, and we look forward to making incredible strides with your continued support for many years to come. After all, when you consider 75 Years and Counting, you should expect nothing less.
