The Victoria Foundation has a vision to make our community stronger and our shared quality of life better now and for the long term. By connecting visionary donors with causes that truly matter we’re able to make positive changes right in our own backyard.
The Victoria Foundation manages charitable gifts from donors whose generosity allows us to create permanent, income-earning funds that are distributed in the areas they wish to support. In doing so, we help charitable organizations succeed in building community resources in Victoria, and increasingly, throughout the province and Canada. A gift to the Victoria Foundation makes a difference to the communities it serves right now, and in perpetuity.
FUND TYPES WITHIN THE FOUNDATION’S ENDOWED ASSETS:
» Donor Advised funds are normally established by individuals and families who wish to remain involved in granting decisions and may disburse grants annually.
» Pass-through funds, which are not endowed, enable a donor to make a contribution and provide advice on the granting of the capital to charitable organizations within the following 12 month period.
» Scholarship funds provide awards for students to further their education internationally and at home here in BC.
» First Nations funds are held on behalf of an Aboriginal government generally as a result of a settlement.
» Provincial funds are those where the funds or the earnings from them are distributed throughout the Province of BC for a variety of charitable purposes.
» Discretionary funds provide grants as determined by a volunteer committee process.
» Hosted Organization funds are held on behalf of a charitable organization with the annual returns periodically disbursed back to that organization.
» Designated funds are granted to specific, named charities.
