REVIEWED HANDS ON... THIS MONTH:

Marshall Class5 C5H Head & C110 extension speaker cabinet

This month, just for a change, we are focusing more specifically on a new Marshall amplifier and it’s sounds, rather than an artist associated with Marshall Amplification.

The new Class5 head is the latest edition to the Marshall family and

like it’s stable-mate the Class5 combo, the new head is a Class A tube amp designed to deliver authentic Marshall tube overdrive and clean tones in a portable package that won’t strain the wallet or threaten to burst your ear drums.

A Class of it’s own… Low wattage guitar amplifiers are currently very popular, especially when they convey a big tone that is ripe with the lovely spongy dynamic range and attack of their bigger cousins. The Marshall Class5 (which first appeared in combo form back in 2009) bristles with five watts of all-tube muscle. The signal path is all-tube from the input to the output, guaranteeing that the player can squeeze every ounce of crystalline clean or warm overdrive from the circuitry and the Class5’s single channel Class A configuration responds to the player’s touch and tone with uncanny sensitivity: back off the guitar’s volume knob and it cleans up a treat, crank up the volume and the amp purrs like a well fed tiger. Brilliant!

If you wanna get ahead…get a head! Guitarists can now enjoy the interactive Class5 experience with an all-new head version. Teamed up with the accompanying 1x10-inch C110 extension speaker cabinet the Class5 head makes an ultra-cute mini stack, you can tuck it into the corner of your studio, bedroom or living room and it won’t take up too much space whilst still looking the absolute mutt’s nuts! The rear panel offers speaker outs for 8 and 16-Ohm extension cabs, so you can hook the little five-watt head up to a bigger 212 or even a 412 cabinet - which will definitely shift some serious air! For occasions when annoying the next door neighbors isn’t recommended, there is a handy headphone output that cuts out the main speaker outs for perfect practice sessions that don’t get disturbed by small pets exploding or people yelling at you to turn it down! Don’t forget that the C110 extension cabinet comes factory fitted with a pukka ten-inch Celestion G10F-15 driver; Celestion speakers and Marshall have been inextricably linked since day one and you can bet that the Class5 cab’s specially voiced driver will deliver the legendary contribution to the Class5’s tones that makes these classic British speakers world famous. The Marshall Class5 head and cab both make a fine new addition to the Class5 line up; the little stack features the same shimmering anodized control panel and black levant livery as the bigger Marshalls and there are also custom colour options available too (see your local Marshall dealer for details). If you have ever dreamed of owning a Marshall amp (and lets face it, who hasn’t?) then the Class5 presents a great affordable opportunity to own a piece of the Marshall legend that you can use for low-key gigs and practice sessions or just enjoy at home.
