At first glance, it looks like the man is taking a break from his busy day to play a video game. He buries his head in the machine, places his hands in the glove-like controls and begins – the surgery is underway. That’s right, surgery. Javier Soto, M.D., is a Wuesthoff Medical Center – Rockledge OB/ GYN who on this given day is using the da Vinci®

Si robotic surgical

system to perform a hysterectomy. The hospital started using the robotic system in December and interest in it is growing amongst physicians and patients alike. Wuesthoff, which was acquired

by Health Management Associates (HMA) of Naples late last year, is committed to being at the forefront of medical technology. In addition to the da Vinci®

system

at Rockledge, Wuesthoff has invested in two robotic-assisted units at its hospital in Melbourne: one a da Vinci®

unit that arrived in

March, the other a robot used to assist with the MAKOplasty partial knee resurfacing procedure.

“Wuesthoff has

provided Brevard County residents with the latest treatment options for decades and that isn’t going to change anytime soon. Our patients deserve to have access to exceptional care close to their home.” – Steve Patonai, Wuesthoff CEO
