The Space Coast health care community has yet again raised the bar to offer local residents the level of care previously only available in big cities. This issue opens with a spotlight on Space Coast Cancer Center (SCCC), which is set to offer the most cutting- edge, precise treatment available today at its new Viera facility. Varian TrueBeam technology is so new, in fact, that only a few cancer treatment facilities in the U.S. currently offer this level of advanced therapy. Learn more about SCCC’s recent developments and the organization’s plan to coordinate health care with Health First’s Viera Hospital on page 10.
Meanwhile, advanced robotic surgical systems – representing the most progressive surgical technology on the market – are taking up residence at not one, but two of the area’s leading hospitals. Both Holmes Regional Medical Center and Wuesthoff Medical Center have introduced the da Vinci®
robotic surgical system to offer patients
minimally invasive surgery with speedy recovery times. Turn to pages 36 and 40 to learn more about robotic surgery, its benefits and how it’s being used by local surgeons.
Telemedicine, which is virtually revolutionizing how patients and their caregivers communicate, is another hot topic explored in this issue. Local health care organizations like Infopia USA and VNA Space Coast are introducing and utilizing telemedicine to test, monitor and treat chronic health conditions like diabetes and hypertension. Read more about how these organizations are utilizing this technology on pages 20 and 61 respectively.
While more and more health care organizations push forward technologically, others remain grounded with personal care and service. Over the years, the level of assistance and care for the senior and disabled communities has grown exponentially on the Space Coast. This issue spotlights many of the area’s best caregivers for these groups including Buena Vida Estates (page 54), Granny Nannies (page 58) and Space Coast Center for Independent Living (page 60).
