Solving the mysteries of the

DEEP STORVIK OFFER INDUSTRY-LEADING MOORINGS INSPECTION SERVICE O

n many sites it is hard to establish whether your moorings are

located and set as they are designed to be – with some moorings sitting in water over 100 metres deep there is no real way to be sure if all your equipment is being deployed as it should be.

As a result, in order to ensure that fish farmers have true peace of mind, Storvik Limited has partnered up with a leading ROV service provid- er to give a full and extensive mooring survey report. ‘This service came about after a customer asked us if we could assist in any way for them to check moor- ings that were located below the limits of a conventional diver’, explains Jamie Young, Managing Director of Storvik Ltd. Using highly trained ROV pilots and a modern and reli- able ROV,

farmers can now achieve survey results that they once thought were unobtainable. The principle of the serv- ice is to provide a detailed report and video footage of all moorings on the site. Covering both cage and barge moorings the end user is provided with an easily referenced report, including details of each connection, any observations and still shots. On page 1 the farmer is presented with an item list believed to need urgent atten- tion, making for a simple and fast response to any mooring issues. A further USB stick is provided containing an elec- tronic copy as well as all the videos recorded.

Security

This service allows the farmer complete peace of mind and security in what’s going on beneath the waves. Already this service has

highlighted potentially serious problems such as upside- down anchors, bundled ground chain, and ropes lying on rock – all previously unknown to the farmers, yet all problems that can later be rectified thanks to a simple survey. ‘This ROV service will be essential in allowing security in containment for the future and Storvik is leading the way in providing this service. We are proud to offer our custom- ers this service and see it has many uses, both now and in the future. We have already completed 11 surveys as well as transect reports and have more bookings in later part of 2011,’ explains Jamie Young. ‘This service will continue to grow and, as a competitively- priced solution, we believe we will be at the forefront of providing the best solutions for containment on farms both now and in the future.’ ROV inspections were once thought to be just a pipe dream for the aquaculture industry – originally designed for the exceptionally lucra- tive oil industry it was hard to get a competitive solution. But Storvik Ltd has found that solution and is proud to be supporting the aquaculture in- dustry with a service that will help monitor and control their containment policies.
