Security Assured Information Systems track of study at the University of Pitts- burgh’s School of Information Sciences in 2006. Over a period of four years, the scholarship program will support three cohorts of four SIS graduate students in their pursuit of graduate degrees, either in information science or telecommu- nications and networking with the SAIS track option. Pitt has been designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security.

The Master of Science in Intelligence and National Security Studies programs provide a highly rigorous interdisciplin- ary graduate program intended for students seeking employment or career advancement in the U.S. intelligence community or other federal, state, or private sector security-related jobs. It is also excellent preparation for advanced study in international relations, public administration and policy, or many other fields.

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
Knowledge garnered through research, and a need within the government and business sectors for a broad overview of information assurance issues, has led Virginia Tech to create a new executive Master of Information Assurance degree aimed at mid-to-upper-level profession- als. The executive master’s program is now accepting applications for 2011.
UW’s Institute for National Security Education and Research is one of the nation’s 20 Intelligence Community Centers of Academic Excellence, which were established by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

INSER supports UW faculty in the development of courses that build skill sets relevant to IC professions, hosts an annual Intelligence Community Col- loquium to raise awareness of issues related to national security, sponsors the UW International Security Colloquium, awards study abroad scholarships to qualified students who are interested in careers in government service, and part- ners with the World Affairs Council of Seattle on the Global Youth Leadership Institute, a week-long institute for high school students designed to enhance their understanding of global issues.
The cohort model weekend program will be limited to 25 students with a variety of undergraduate backgrounds in science and engineering. The eMISA cur- riculum reaches beyond cyber security because, according to the program’s director, Saifur Rahman, information as- surance also requires specific knowledge in forensics, cryptography, information security, and trust technologies. To emphasize that problems and challenges are global in nature, a two-week field study coordinated with industrial and academic partners in Europe is included in the 30-weekend, 17-month program so that students are exposed to informa- tion assurance standards and realizations on a global scale.
Wayne State University
The Center for Academic Excellence in National Security Intelligence Studies was recently established at Wayne State University, with a renewable grant from the U.S. intelligence community. This pilot program is a designed to increase the pool of eligible applicants for posi- tions within the intelligence community with an emphasis on students with diverse cultural backgrounds, language proficiency, geographical expertise and related competencies. Although the program is based in the College of Engi- neering, students from all disciplines are encouraged to participate.
