Kelowna
Breaks Out If you are at Kelowna airport around October 20th you may wonder why you hear live music in the arrivals area. We’re not the new nightclub in town. We are celebrating BreakOut West in Kelowna.
From October 21st – 24th downtown Kelowna will be alive with over 50 bands performing in eight downtown venues (all for the price of a $20 weekend wristband). A three-day music industry conference will have delegates here from all areas of the music industry. With the live entertainment during the day, Artistic Awards show Saturday night and the Western Canadian Music Awards on Sunday night Kelowna will be rocking all weekend.
For the first time in its eight year history, The Western Canadian Music Awards will be televised. Not only will CBC Television be at BreakOut West 2010 in Kelowna, B.C. to record the Awards in English but Radio Canada will be there to broadcast the awards in French as well. In addition, both CBC English and French Radio will be recording BreakOut West Festival performances for national broadcast.
Over 600 Western Canadian musicians applied for 60 performance spots. One of the goals of the host committee was to minimize the carbon footprint of this 3-day event, so all music venues will be within the Cultural District for ease of use for patrons to walk between venues.
Mini-BreakOut West for Families The BreakOut West host committee is the first ever family showcase. On Sunday October 24, 2010 from 10:30 to 2:30, the Rotary Centre for the Arts in Kelowna will be buzzing with musical activity and little people. Live musical performances, an Instrument Petting Zoo and the Musical Crafts will keep little ones busy.

Where has your YLW Connection travelled to?
Robert and Marilynne Fine on Barry Island UK July 2010.
Kim and Paul Jollymore and Curtis and Danita Schreiber from Kelowna competed this spring in the Boston Marathon and afterwards took time to rest their aching feet and legs to read their copy of YLW Connection. There were at least 8 other runners from Kelowna and their finish times ranged from 3:05 !!!! to 4:09. Fast people live in Kelowna!
A recent meeting was held with (l-r) Airport Director Sam Samaddar, Rob Merrifield Minister of State (Transport), Ron Cannan MP, Michael Fu - Transport Canada and Pierre Lemieux Parliamentary Secretary where YLW was asked to provide a Class 2 Airport perspective on aviation security and the CATSA review.
