YLW NEWS Getting to and from the airport

Don’t want to drive and park your vehicle at the airport and you are unable to bribe a family member or friend to drive you – so how do you get to or from the airport?

At YLW there are many ground transportation options available from limousines, taxis, shuttles, regional transit to car rentals. Recently some of the ground transportation locations had to be changed for safety reasons, increased volumes and for the Drive to 1.6 Million Passengers Development Program that will soon be taking place. Be sure to follow the signs as some things are not where they used to be.

Shuttle Bus – now located at the south end of the terminal – catch your ride to Kelowna or book your shuttle to Osoyoos or Salmon Arm and everywhere in between.

Rental Car return and pick-up – you still fill out your paperwork at one of the four on-site car rental agencies located near the Arrivals area, but to pick up your vehicle or drop it off the location of the lot has relocated to the south- end of the short-term lot for easier access.

Regional Transit – taking the bus from West Kelowna or Kelowna and coming to the airport the friendly bus driver will now drop you off right in front of the terminal near the South entrance. This same bus will take any passengers heading northbound to Lake Country and Vernon. To go southbound towards UBCO, Kelowna and West Kelowna you catch the bus along Airport Way west of the arrivals area.

Did you know: If you purchase a Gold Pass, which not only gives you unlimited parking and is set at 1/3 of the monthly maximum in the short-term lot at $119/month, you will also be awarded 50 Air Miles® — To learn more about the Gold Pass visit the Royal Star parking booth in the short-term lot or call 250 765-5612

YOUR OPINION COUNTS!

Between October and February Airport Ambassadors will be asking for your opinion and we really want it! YLW is one of many airports around the world that is asking its passengers for feedback and information about airport services, where they are travelling to, and how often they fly. At the end of the survey period in March all of the forms will be compiled and ranked. We want to see how YLW measures up against other airports of similar size in Europe, North America, Latin America and Caribbean. As well, we want to know where we can do better. Past suggestions have helped us add more food and retail services as well as free internet access.

DND sets up search and rescue operations at YLW

Search headquarters was established at YLW after a Piper PA24 aircraft with a pilot and three occupants failed to arrive in Victoria after leaving Penticton.

Two Cormorant helicopters, three Buffalo and one Aurora aircraft from 19 Wing Comox, one CC-130 Hercules from 17 Wing Winnipeg along with 15 Provincial Emergency Program (PEP) and Civilian Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA) aircraft were involved in the search which covered 18,000 square kilometers over land and water. The aircraft and its occupants were recovered eight days later.

The CC-130 Hercules has an extended stay at YLW as it underwent engine repair. The massive Herc is shown being towed down the runway to complete an engine run-up test prior to returning to Winnipeg.
