under the leadership of Pastor Larry Edwards. At that time, the church met in the old Bi-Lo shopping cen- ter in Weaverville. Years later, the church built its first building on Monticello Road (currently the home of North Point Baptist). In January 2000, Pastor Dave Aumill- er and his wife Nancy began serv- ing at MBC. Te church relocated again in 2005 to their current wor- ship facility on Lower Flat Creek Road. One of several unique ministries

at MBC is its monthly street feed program. On the first Sunday of every month, church members take food directly to the home- less men and women of Asheville. “Our teams take one hot meal, a sack lunch, blankets and clothing to nearly 150 people,” Aumiller explained. “We set up at predeter- mined areas downtown where large homeless groups live...under I-240, at the bus station, even in populat- ed water drain systems. Wherever they are, that’s where we set up. It is amazing to see this kind of min- istry in action.” Another unique outreach of

MBC is Neighborhood Bible Time. Tis is a special weeklong children’s event held at Maranatha each sum- mer. “Kids come from all over the community for this fun week. It’s like vacation bible school on ste- roids,” Aumiller jokingly described. MBC also has a bus ministry that transports numerous children to church each week who would not be able to attend otherwise. Te church has a weekly radio broad- cast on WHBK 1460 every Monday

morning at 8:45 and weekday after- noons at 4:30. Last but not least, MBC also hosts an area MOPS group (Mothers of Preschoolers) on the second Monday of each month. Te church also supports ABCCM and is committed to many mission- aries, both local and abroad. Pastor Aumiller is in his 48th

year as a pastor and continues to love the people and purpose of Christian ministry. His favorite scripture passage is Proverbs 3:5- 6: ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways

acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.’ “I am confident that we are all alive right now ‘for such a time as this’. God has us on this earth for a divine reason. Life is not all about us; we are simply to be empty vessels for Him.” Maranatha is an Independent

Baptist fellowship that offers tra- ditional-style worship on Sunday mornings at 10:50am. Bible study for all ages is offered on Sunday and Wednesday evenings. For more de- tailed information about MBC, go to mbcweaverville.org or call 484- 4201.
