claim they do not want the title. Tey’d rather the credit go to someone else. “God’s been good to us,” said Phil Pickens, of Top Line Trophies in Weaverville. “He’s blessed us with this busi- ness.” Top Line Trophies has been
in the Weaverville area 30 years, providing trophies, plaques and other ceremonial pieces for youth leagues, Mars Hill College and other businesses and groups. You won’t find them in the phone book because the only advertising
they have ever done has been through word of mouth as well as bless- ings from a higher being. Tey’ve never missed a deadline, and they’ve never failed to receive a payment. “We don’t do it for any recognition,” wife Melba Pickens said. Barnardsville Elementary School Principal Heidi Allison first came
across Top Line Trophies after discovering a batch of old awards un- derneath the school’s stage that dated back to the 1950s. Due to the response the trophies received from those who attended school there during those years, Allison felt obliged to restore them. “We felt like we couldn’t throw them away,” she said. Given school budgets, though, a restoration job was an expense the
school could not make. So Top Line Trophies stepped in and did the work for free. “And I don’t clean trophies,” Phil said with a laugh. “I still don’t.” But, he added, “We take care of our customers.”
