Mission trip refurbishes Panama classrooms

Creek Baptist Church left snowy Western North Carolina the first week of January and headed to Panama City, Panama for a mis- sion trip. This was the third year they have gone to Panama to help a ministry they support. Despite the 90-degree weather and no running water they were each blessed with an opportunity of a lifetime. There was no running water because recent f looding had caused mud to clog the res-


ervoirs. During their eight-day trip,


they helped to construct and re- furbish classrooms for a school that serves 650 Chinese stu- dents. The Chinese children are in Panama brought over by their parents. Panama Christian Academy


was made possible by Randy and Donna Weets who are missionar- ies in Panama. They are former residents of the Leicester commu- nity but have been missionaries in Panama for 22 years. During this time they have helped to start 12


churches and the school. “It is a privilege for us to be


called to serve. We don’t want to be recognized but for God to re- ceive the credit for what He can accomplish through us,” said Pas- tor Ricky Townsend. Those who went on the trip


stayed with host families and also attended church services in one of the churches they helped con- struct in their previous trips. Both of these opportunities allowed them to experience the culture of Panama and see the sacrifices the missionary families make.
