hard times in 2009 and 2010, win- ning only three games on the field and experiencing disgruntled rum- blings off the field. Metts said while the past two

years contributed to his decision, there were other factors as well. “I love the community and the

kids. I just feel like the past seven years, I’ve done all I can do with the program,” he said. “It’s time for a new face and time for the program to move on.” North Buncombe Athletics Di-

worked out,” he said. Because the school does not

Community mem- bers voiced their compliments and praise for Carey

Metts after his announcement to resign.

Rebecca - Very sad that

our community could stoop to such low tactics that were involved in criticizing Coach Metts. I can hardly blame him for wanting to leave, however he will be missed by many that knew him and his family.

Dottie - I have no kin on

the NBHS football squad, but I feel that Coach Metts did the best job possible without a strong following from the public. As a former coach my- self, I understand his frustra- tions and wish him the best of luck wherever he goes. I will still follow NBHS athletics.

TeeJay - Coach Metts does

a fine job and always seems so positive. He had a lot of negativity thrown his way and handled it like a true gentle- man.
