Two Special Olympics athletes attend UNC camp
Carpenters Heart benefit Fatz Café on Spartan Road in Asheville will host a pancake break-
fast benefit for North Buncombe-based missionary Te Carpenters Heart on Feb. 5. Plates will be $7 and children under 6 will eat free. A portion of each plate sold will go to the group’s orphanage project.

Davis of North Buncombe Elemen- tary School were chosen to attend the Special Olympics North Caro- lina Hoops Clinic on Sunday (Jan. 23). Te clinic was held at the Uni- versity of North Carolina. Spainhour and Davis were nomi-
nated by their coach to attend the clinic. Both athletes are currently in training to compete in individu- al basketball skills held at the 2011 Special Olympics North Carolina Basketball and Cheerleading Tour-
naments. Tese tournaments will be held on March 5 in Jacksonville and on March 12 in Charlotte. Spainhour and Davis, along with
nearly 100 other Special Olympics athletes from across North Caro- lina, received basketball instruction from UNC Men’s Basketball Coach Roy Williams, his staff and players. Te athletes rotated through vari- ous skills stations concentrating on passing, dribbling and shooting. Te clinic culminated with ath- letes teaming up with Tar Heels
players in a half court scrimmage exhibition. Tis is the eighth year the Tar Heels have hosted Special Olympics North Carolina athletes.
