Getting it right – Down Under A GOVERNMENT Minister has called for proposals to establish new banking and fi nancial


services for social enterprises – in Australia. Kate Ellis, who is Minister for Employment Participation Down Under, has made $20 million


available through the Social Enterprise Development and Investment Funds, to provide social enterprises with access to independent sources of capital and support. Banks, fi nancial institutions and other entities who put forward successful proposals will


match the Government’s investment, creating a total pool of $40 million. Minister Ellis said that these new social enterprise funds will help to address the diffi culties that social enterprises can face in accessing private capital for the development of businesses.

HELP for 30 businesses across Greater Manchester is being provided by the Together Works support programme, “Intermediate Business Assists”. The 30 include social enterprises, charities and other Third Sector organisations who are each receiving help and advice from specialist consultants. A full evaluation of the scheme will


take place amid hopes that another EU funded programme will run later this year.
