FC United – scoring for social enterprise WELCOME to the new-look enterprising - the magazine of social enterprise in Greater Manchester.
I
hope you like the new design and the other changes I have made. The Board of Together Works sees enterprising as a crucial
vehicle for the sector in the current period of change and challenge for social enterprises. That’s why I have been keen to use this issue to highlight some of the brilliant work being done by social enterprises all over Greater Manchester. FC United’s exhilirating FA Cup giant-killing act takes pride of place in this edition – their heart-warming story is an inspiration to everyone and shows the difference social enterprise can make to people’s lives. FC Utd are truly making soccer, once more, The People’s Game. As well as football, in this issue we are also concentrating on another subject close to our hearts: food! Social enterprises such as Cracking Good Food, Grub and the Food Matters initiative are all leading the way in encouraging us to eat more healthy, mouth-watering, nutritious food. And it tastes great too! Two centres run by Together Works members – the
impressive new Inspire in Levenshulme and Trinity in Salford
- are both featured for helping to put social enterprise on the map, literally. I hope you like these bright, new, colourful features in the magazine – they are part of a deliberate attempt to show how social enterprises here in Greater Manchester are changing people’s lives for the better. Our aim is to engage more people and generate more awareness. We will continue to cover the serious side of social
enterprise – but in an accessible and interesting way. One other thing: I hope enterprising will be provocative and outward looking too – particular reasons why we are delighted that Michael Taylor, editor of the respected North West Business Insider, will be contributing a regular column in the future.
In the meantime, enjoy the new look
enterprising. And if you have suggestions, feedback, ideas or readers letters for future editions – please don’t hesitate to get in touch at
editor.enterprising@gmail.com.
