paddleboarding and a school of feeding dol- phins encircled me. Dolphins usually hunt in groups, forming a circle, or “U” shape, with their young protected on the inside; they herd schools of fish together and then take turns swooping through and eating as many as they need. Dolphins consume their natural foods in harmony with their environ- ment—I think that’s why they always seem to have smiles on their faces. I may not have the luxury of swooping my food out of the ocean, but I do the next best thing: I dine at Lotus Café & Juice Bar, in Encinitas. Owners Carl and Johanna are our “land dolphins,” generating healthy energy all around them. They steer our community to their eating establishment with a large selection of healthy, delicious food. The choice of relaxed dining inside or outdoors adds to the enjoy- ment of a perfect meal every time. Natural foods are needed to fuel a well-balanced body, mind and soul—if our diet is out of sync, so is our psyche. When we focus on changing our diet to in- clude more healthy, fresh foods, we become reconnected to the Earth and experi- ence nature’s plenitude through restored clarity, overall health and energy. We can convert this energy into becoming productive, caring community partners. That seems to be what is happening in San Diego, so we must be eating abun-

dant healthy, natural food! David Steel, the president and CEO of the U.S. Green Chamber, has taken that organization to a national level in record time, with now more than 200 local green members. Fellow Californian Tom Shadyac, the director of several Jim Carrey comedies, has gone back to basics—find out why by watch- ing his documentary, I Am; it opens in San Diego on March 11. Two other community-builders, Natural Awakenings Editor Linda Sechrist and

The Connection Partners Founder Sharon Joy Kleitsch, plan to feed us all another serving of their Stone Soup specialty tour this summer. Taking their organic “reci- pe” on the road again, they’ll connect more green dots to help sustainable living become a household reality across the country. Our planet needs us to be of sound body, mind and spirit, and eating wisely is a good first step. We can also use proactive measures, like thermography, to safe- guard our health. This non-invasive means of finding and monitoring any changes in the body, even before we experience health challenges, is now available here in San Diego and Orange County (mobile office also available). Thermography detects existing problems, too—but I like to think in terms of preventive maintenance. Another opportunity to learn about achieving whole-body balance is the upcoming Longevity Now Conference, April 1-3, in Costa Mesa. Renowned health lecturer David Wolfe will lead a panel of experts as they share the latest strategies in anti-aging. I would like to remind you that our Natural Awakenings Network (NAN) membership campaign is underway. We understand that it can be more expensive and time-consuming to eat healthier food and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Often, insurance won’t cover out-of-the-box healthcare. Our network is designed to de- liver a healthy lifestyle, with healthy discounts. Please join us.
