21 Adele When American music lovers were first
introduced to the across-the-pond sensation, simply known as Adele, the noise that you heard was a collective sigh of relief, in regards to the-breath-of-fresh-air aspect of her single, “Chasing Pavements,” being received as a hit single. The song also garnered the young singer/song- writer a Grammy win for “Best Female Pop Vocal.” Now the Brit is back with a new CD, 21, which boasts a bluesier sound that is clearly evident on the track, “Someone Like You,” which finds Adele backed by a melodic solo piano, as she sings the tale of the one who got away and what she’d say to him later in life. She has sched- uled the very radio-friendly song, “Rolling in the Deep,” as her first single on which she wails out the vocals to the accompaniment of an up-tempo beat. Available Now.
Musica + Alma + Sexo Ricky Martin To say that fans are eagerly awaiting Ricky Martin’s first post-coming-out album would be an understate- ment. The “Livin’ La Vida Loca” singer will quench that anticipatory thirst two-fold when he releases his new bilingual CD early this month. His first single, “The Best Thing About Me Is You”
features accompaniment from Joss Stone and lyrics like, “I think I’m cool ‘cause your name’s on this heart shaped tattoo,” and serves as a song-length Valentine. He has also recorded a Spanish version “Lo Me- jor de Mi Vida Eres Tu” with Natalia Jimenez. Available
February 1.
Calling All Hearts Keyshia Cole
Keyshia Cole has been rockin’ our
collective worlds since 2005, and it was “Love” (considered to be her break- through single from her The Way It Is CD) that made it all possible. The lead single “I Ain’t Thru,” off of her fourth musical endeavor, Calling All Hearts, not only features guest vocals from Nicki Minaj, but serves as a powerful reminder that “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned,” it could serve as a great breakup anthem for the anti- Valentine’s Day set.On the flip side of that is her newest song, “Long Way Down,” a slower R&B-flavored bit of mood music. Available Now.
