SOLUTIONS TO SAN DIEGO’S

BUDGET CRISIS The Hillcrest Town Council (HTC) will hold a special town hall-style meeting on

Tuesday, February 8. The agenda is set to discuss the financial crisis San Diego is facing. Participants and their proposals to address it include: District 5 Council member Carl DeMaio, former City Attorney Mike Aguirre, UCSD Professor Alan Gin and Michael Zucchet representing the San Diego Municipal Employees Association (MEA). The HTC works to provide a voice and enhance the quality of life for Hillcrest renters and homeowners while supporting actions that benefit our neighborhood. The special HTC meeting takes place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. All HTC meetings are held at the Joyce Beers Community Center—located at 3900 Vermont Street in the Uptown Shopping District, between Terra and Aladdin Restaurant.

COFFEE AND CONVERSATION

WITH COOL WOMEN The Women’s Resource Center (WRC) will hold another installment of the popular

series Coffee and Conversation with Cool Women on Wednesday, February 9. Coffee and Conversation is a monthly community talk show that features Tryce Czyczynska interviewing notable women from the community. In honor of Valentine’s Day, the February “cool couple,” Maureen Steiner and Camille Davidson, are a loving pair with a unique story. Together they share a passion for supporting the San Diego arts —as well as a passion for one another. This event is free and open to all, but donations are always welcome. Coffee and Conversation with Cool Women takes place at The San Diego LGBT Community Center, 3909 Centre Street in Hillcrest at 7:00 p.m. For more information, contact Abby Schwartz at 619.692.2077, ext. 212.

The clinics are a chance for team captains to evaluate your abilities as you participate in the skill stations so they can develop their player draft order. These are not tryouts, as everyone who wants to participate and pays the league fee will be drafted to a team. You must attend one of the clinics in order to be eligible for the draft. You will fill out your registration forms and pay your league fee here. Football or soccer cleats are strongly recommended. February 13—Draft and Draft Party: Once both clinics are completed, the

12 team captains will go into a private setting and draft their teams from all the players available. To be eligible to be drafted you must have participated in a least one of the two clinics (preferably both) and have paid your league fee. Once the draft is complete, the league will conduct a draft party where all the teams are announced and you will have your first chance to meet your new teammates. League fee is $100—this fee pays for your team jersey (yours to keep), a

league t-shirt, referee fees and field costs. Games will be played at Doyle Recreation Center in La Jolla. For more information about the SDAFFL 2011 season, visit sdffl.org.
