Mary Anderson Webb Barnardsville - Mary Anderson Webb,
age 92, of 42 Anderson Cove Road died Monday, Oct. 4, 2010.
Mrs. Webb was
born March 8, 1918, in Buncombe County. She was a daughter of the late William Birch and Hattie Russell Anderson. In addi- tion to her parents, she was also pre- ceded in death by her husband, Otis L. Webb, Sr., who died in 1986; and children, Thomas J.
Anderson, Loraine Edwards, and Emmitt Carroll Webb. Surviving are her son, Otis Lee Webb
of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Betty Fields and Shirley Ray, both of Barnardsville; 19 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Her funeral service was held at 11 am
on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with the Rev. Kermit Ball of- ficiating. Burial was in West Memorial Park.
The family received friends from 6 pm
to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at the funeral home. At other times, the family was at the
residence.

Rachel Fox Morgan Weaverville/Summersville, W. Va. - Ra-
chel Fox Morgan, 57, of Summersville, West Virginia died at her home on Wednes- day, Oct. 6, 2010. She was born in Asheville on Oct. 14,
1952, graduated from North Buncombe High School in 1970, and trained as a nurse at Isothermal Community College. During her life, she lived and made lifelong friends in cities across North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and West Virginia. She was a loving and warm person with a wonderful sense of humor. Her family and friends will always remember her. Her par- ents, Nat and Betty Fox, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Reed,
and son, Justin; siblings Linda Gerringer, Nina Fox-Holliday, and Tom Fox; two niec- es, Nateesha Johnson and Bethany Fox; nephew, Clay Gerringer; and five grand- nieces: Anna, Amelia, Beatrice, Georgina and Hailey Grace. Rachel’s services were held at 3 pm

Blanche R. Edwards Marshall - Blanche R. Edwards 91, of Hwy
213, Marshall died Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, at The Brian Center, Weaverville after a short illness.
She was a
native and lifelong resident of Madison County and a daugh- ter of the late Doyle and Sonnie Crowe Rogers. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Zeb Edwards, who died in 1998, son-in-law, Harry Gregg and foster brother, Jack Griffin. Blanche was a homemaker and
loved working in her flowers and watching the Atlanta Braves. Surviving are her daughter, Joyce Gregg
of Asheville; son, Bob Edwards and wife Judy of Etowah; sister, Geneva R. Cheek of Weaverville; grandchildren, Tammy Gregg, Amy Gregg Myers and husband Bill; great grandson, Will Myers; and her dog, Kita. The funeral service was held at 11 am
on Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, at Trinity Baptist Church where she was the oldest member. The body was placed in the church 30 min- utes prior to the service. The Rev. Kevin Mc- Millan and the Rev. Jack Smith officiated. Burial followed in the Old Bull Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Billy Myers, Gregg Cheek, Dwight Fender, Fred Treadway, Richard and Leon- ard Edwards. Honorary pallbearers were: Harold Rogers and Paul Gosnell. Beverly Hough MARS HILL -- Mrs. Beverly Hough, who
compiled a 30-year teaching career in North Carolina public schools and at Mars Hill College and Catawba College, died Sun- day, Oct. 10, 2010 at the age of 75. She was the wife of Dr. John M. Hough, who was a member of the Mars Hill College fac- ulty and administra- tive staff 1962-1984 and 1994-1998. She was born to
Jean and Robert Nance in Akron, Ohio, on June 24, 1935
and was a graduate of Gray High School in Winston-Salem in 1953. She earned the bachelor’s of science in secretarial admin-
istration degree in 1957 from North Carolina Woman’s College now University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she worked at UNC-TV during its first year. She also worked as a secretary at RJ. Reynolds in Winston-Salem and later as a legal secre- tary in Hampton, V.A. After her husband joined the Mars Hill College faculty, Mrs. Hough became an assistant in the college library, worked for the Neighborhood Youth Corps in Madison County and later taught classes at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College. Mrs. Hough began her teaching career at
Mars Hill High School in 1970. She contin- ued her public school teaching at Madison High School in Marshall, Mars Hill Elemen- tary and at Salisbury High School. She was chosen Teacher of the Year in 1982 and represented the Madison County school system in state competition. She was also chosen Teacher of the Year in 1994 when she was teaching at Salisbury High School. After retiring from public school systems
and from Mars Hill and Catawba colleges she remained active by teaching the Friend- ship Sunday School Class at Mars Hill Bap- tist Church. She also served on the board of the Madison County Senior Games, par- ticipated in a bridge club and served with friends at the Mars Hill Town Library. In fact, the train depot in the children’s section of the library is named for Beverly and John. Mrs. Hough is survived by her husband
and two daughters, Dr. Holly Jean Hough of Chapel Hill and Robin Hough Luther of Mt. Ulla, NC. Survivors also include her son-in- law, Richard Luther of Mt. Ulla; two grand- children, Lauren Vail Luther and Jonathan Kyle Luther; brothers, Gary Nance and his wife, Josephine, of Morganton, NC, Robert N. Nance, Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of High Point, NC; niece and nephew Leia N. Parker and Gary Nance, Jr.; and other nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hough was a dedicated wife, moth-
er, grandmother, and teacher who was ex- tremely creative and caring. She enjoyed reading and painting and will be missed by her family and friends. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made

Hill Baptist Church Cemetery at 1 pm on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010. Speakers were the Rev. Drs. Sue Fitzgerald, Tommy Justus and the Rev. Jerry Shelton. The memorial service was at 2 pm on
Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, in the sanctuary of Mars Hill Baptist Church at 67 North Main Street. Speakers Dr. Holly Hough, Dr. Sue Fitzgerald and Dr. Tommy Justus. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Chapman, Har- ley Jolley and Page Lee. Regular pallbear- ers were Kevin Barnette, Shelby Buckner, John Campbell, Lee, Will Hoffman, Stuart Jolley, Ray Rapp and John Wells. Special groups at the memorial service will include Beverly’s Sunday school class, her bridge group and her artist friends “Church Mice Painters.” The family will greet visitors in the church immediately following the memorial service.
