North Buncombe Hero
Tis week’s Hero of the Week are several alumni from North Bun-
combe High School who participated with the Carolina Gold Drum & Bugle Corps that was awarded third place recently in the Drum Corp Associates National Championships in Rochester, NY. Former BlackHawks Emory Hensley, Brandon Coffey, Charles Ed-
ward, Brad Moore and Zach VanderElzen all participate in the band that is made up of some of the top musicians in the Southeast. Several other members, including Colton Stewart, Justin Mabry and Corey Denham are students at Mars Hill College. Members spent countless weekend hours of rehearsal throughout
the summer and competed in four additional competitions, leading to the thrilling successes of the season-ending championship. Te 2010 show, entitled “Primary Suspects”, used musical selections from Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho”, Magnum P.I., and Inspector Gadget, among others, to invoke a crime drama theme. Te percussion section completed an undefeated season, taking
home the Class A High Percussion Award. Hensley and Coffey are on the percussion staff. Teir hard work and accolades are the reasons they are this week’s Hero of the Week.
