did numerous cleanings. “Tere were a lot of people in
desperate need of help with no other way to get it,” Brookshire said. “Tey were very grateful.” Te dental bus is staffed by local
volunteers and sponsored by the North Carolina Baptist Men. Te current bus is 21 years old and is experiencing continuous mechani- cal problems and breakdowns of the medical equipment. Brookshire said the new bus will
cost $400,000, and the organizers have to raise $100,000 before they order it. Anyone who wishes to donate
can send a check to the Leicester Community at P.O. Box 1518, Le- icester, NC 28748. Make checks payable to the Leicester Commu- nity Center and write “for dental bus” on it. Tose who wish to do-
nate online can go to baptistson-
mission.org/Giving/Other. In addition to the dental bus
coming to the community center next April, Brookshire said they are hoping to have the Park Ridge Hospital Wellness on Wheels Wagon and a vision bus as well. Te WOW bus came to Belle United Methodist Church last October and gave blood checks, cholesterol screenings and helpful information about health, diet and exercise. Brookshire said the other proj-
ects the community center has in the works include a web page and a Facebook page being developed by volunteers. According to Brook- shire, the Web site and Facebook page will be an excellent resource for residents to keep up with events at the community center.
