Happy New Year, San Diego! This is my one-year anniversary, and I only have space for 500 words to express my heartfelt gratitude and talk about all the wonderful things that are coming our way in 2011. First things first: Thank you, loyal readers and sup- portive advertisers, for making Natural Awakenings San Diego a roaring success.

Not only are we excited this month to include our first annual directory of professional and passionate health practitioners, we are also elated that we can highlight our Natural Awakenings Network (NAN) mem- bers with an emblem next to the provider’s

name. Natural Awakenings and its NAN members, who provide valu- able health services and discounts, now make it easy and financially rewarding for you to take your health into your own hands. We will indi- cate all NAN members as they continue to join other directory members on our national website: NaturalAwakeningsNetwork.com. As 2011 revs up, I encourage you to add one more resolution to

your list: Commit to saving money on integrative health care and ser- vices by taking advantage of NAN discounts. Hold the intention that this will help you enjoy a better quality of life. Holistic well-being is a core value of Natural Awakenings, and I

have been attending Dr. Adiel Tel-Oren’s (“Dr. T”) lectures since my first publication, in January 2010. Through his vast knowledge, research and worldwide travels, Dr. T inspires and educates people around the globe and promotes products such as the new Clary Sage Omega 3, that are not avail- able in the marketplace. We are kicking off our Healthy Mind department with Dr. T this month in order to expand our offerings on integrative, preventive medicine. “Five Steps to Better Health,” our feature article, outlines the importance

of preventive care. Awareness, the first step, is what we bring you each month, providing the tools you need to take an integrative approach, educate yourself and think outside the box. Our professionals and medical intuitives, such as Dr. Carolle, can teach you how to use what is already within. When you are ready, Dr. Wolf will take the time to treat the underlying causes of your symptoms. I and my family and friends have all enjoyed the positive results of these approaches, and now, after 20 years experience, we are elated to see that integrative medicine is becoming mainstream. With our other new monthly Sustainable Living column, on page 19, Editor

Linda Sechrist is intent on offering us a larger, “whole systems” view of sustainabil- ity through local and national stories that highlight the seven aspects of the holistic permaculture design system. We hope that this column will enlarge everyone’s understanding of sustainability, thus helping it become as mainstream as integra- tive health care.

resources that can help you become the best you can be in 2011. Cheers to less medicine and more smiles!
