Burger Lounge

“CERTIFIABLY GOOD” AND A “CERTIFIED GREEN RESTAURANT”

You just can’t stop a good thing…with restaurant

locations already in Coronado, La Jolla, Little Italy and Kensington, The Burger Lounge has opened new doors in Hillcrest at Fourth and University. The interior and exte- rior is wrapped in a vibrant orange color. Inside, there are clean white walls with a graphic display of expressions and words wrapped into a ribbon of thought that will grab your attention after you place your order. The inte- rior design is very modern and relaxing at the same time.

Once inside, we found a table and settled in for what turned out to be a wonderfully delicious meal. The food was uniquely American and really hit the spot of satisfaction on all accounts. It’s crucial for this business to settle for nothing less than grass-fed beef that is direct from the 10,000-acre Red Buffalo Ranch in Kansas. Another important aspect…it is always fresh, never frozen. Their selection of premium burgers includes an option for vegetarians as well with a grilled turkey burger and what they call the Burger Lounge Vegetarian “Quinoa” burger. Being the beef lovers that we both are, my husband Tom and I had their grilled lounge burger…. fries, onion rings, a chocolate shake and one iced tea…please! For those who might want to have a beer in between bites, they are now serving alcohol. For diners who want to pass on the fries, The Burger Lounge also offers sides of salads,

either the vegetable or Caesar variety, and two full salad offerings of the same variety. Even though it wasn’t part of my dining experience, the vegetable salad sounds invit- ing with romaine, baby spinach, cucumber, tomato, roasted corn, red onion, jicama, daikon sprouts, aged ricotta and lemon-basil vinaigrette or avocado ranch dressing… now, that really does sound good and healthy. Please do treat yourself to their fabulous onion rings though. The Burger Lounge’s

special mix of buttermilk and Japanese breadcrumbs creates a light and inviting tex- ture that never overwhelms the flavorful burst of onion. I had to nab two or three off my husband’s plate. My bad! Not to be déclassé in any way…but you know that feeling after eating fast food?

Where you feel like you shouldn’t have even attempted to down some burger or fries…cause you always feel gross afterwards? It’s completely the opposite. After a Burger Lounge burger and sides, you really feel contentedly full with no bad afterglow. It’s just the feeling that you enjoyed a quality-made and timeless classic done right. That’s the highest compliment that I can pay, as the care in food, freshness, qual- ity and preparation is truly what makes The Burger Lounge a unique and first-rate food excursion.
