REGULAR PORTUGUESE CORRESPONDENT RICARDO PINTO

SCANDINAVIA BY SUNE HOLST CONGRATULATIONS TO THEO

Well, I will start this column by congratulating Theo Jørgensen with his sponsorship from the online poker room PokerStars. Theo is a veteran on the Danish and international poker scene, and a person whom is respected both for his poker skills but also his positive attitude. He is simply just a very nice person with a great sense of humour.

Theo Jørgensen

I hope this deal means he will never go broke. He was the one that got me interested in poker in the first place, when I was a sports journalist I made a documentary about him. He also owns the apartment that my family live in. With this deal I’m more than sure it will take some time before we end on the streets.

Theo has had a terrific year and in the spring he

emerged as the champion of the WPT stop at the Aviation Club’s Rendezvous a Paris, taking home an $848,736 payday. This year in Las Vegas, he made a deep run in the Main Event and held the chip lead late before hitting the rail in 30th place. For his career, Jorgensen has garnered over $2.8 million in tournament earnings, and won a gold bracelet for his victory in the £5,000 Pot Limit Omaha event at the 2008 WSOP Europe. Even though he began as a Pot Limit Omaha cash game specialist.

PETERSEN CHASES BLUFF TITLE

You guys might not know Mickey Petersen, but under the online moniker 'mement_mori' this young gun has been terrorising the online tournaments this year. Now he is aiming for a finish at the top of the Bluff Magazines Online Player of the Year. To reach his goal he played not less than 1,010 tournaments in October. Right now he is second on the list right behind Bill 'CrazyHorse76' Slaght. Even though his talent for tournament poker is exceptional Mickey Petersen tells in an interview to pokernyhederne. com, that he might scale down his tournament activities next year, and start focusing on cash games.

SCANDI SWINGS

When it comes to online poker no-one has larger swings than Gus Hansen, which he proved once again in October where he managed to come back from a $1.6 million downswing, and actually end the month with a solid plus. On an opposite swing Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies ended up down $1.7 million. On his blog on coinflip.com he says that even though he has won a little here and there he actually has been in the middle of a downswing since June. His fellow countryman, former EPT Copenhagen winner Jens Kyllönen, is not doing any better. In fact, he says, that if he doesn’t manage to turn things around when it comes to cash games he might go broke. He blames the Playstation game “Fallout New Vegas” for some of his losses, as he thinks it takes too much of his focus.

Chaves hosted another sold-out event of the largest and oldest poker circuit – the PokerStars Solverde Poker Season. The event had 284 participants at the start of Day 1 and, as this was a normal leg, each participant paid e110 buy-in to join in plus there were 237 rebuys and 253 add-ons with the prize pool reaching e47,689. With e12,399 reserved for the winner the

action was frantic, with constant changes on the leaderboard. By the end of 15 levels of 35 minutes, we were left with 48 survivors with Miguel Pinto da Costa in the lead.

The action on Day 2 started in full swing and we were down to 30 after the bubble burst at the hands of Daniel Henriques.

A couple of hours later, we had reached the final table. No man stood out in chips but we could recognize a few familiar faces. Luís Rodrigues and Eduardo Ferreira were the most well known players of the last table and they made their way to the heads up. With João Paulo Ferreira in third, Eduardo and Luis were face-to-face.

Eduardo admitted that his heads up skills are not up-to-date and lost in brief minutes. Luís Rodrigues took first place and a huge e12,399

cheque. Eduardo Ferreira took home e7,869. Two weeks later and on the other side of the country, Vilamoura hosted the last regular event of the 2010 schedule.

The tournament featured 202 players, who made a total of 166 rebuys and 157 add-ons, which created a total prize-pool of e32,806 for the top 25 players.

During the second tournament day there were 28 players who opened the bags of chips looking for a place in the top spots. With the prize money guaranteed, the tournament started moving at a fast pace and quickly found its final table with the chiplead changing every hand!

This was a final table with lots of action, a good dose of bad beats and a huge audience. It ended with Victor Moreira and Luis Machado battling at the heads-up stage which lasted just a single hand.

–Victor held 2-4 against Machado's A-7.

Ace high was good and Luis claimed the title and e8,694 and guaranteed a place in the Masters

Solverde Season in December. Victor Moreira took e5,577 for runner-up spot.

The next stage is the Main Event from the 7th till the 12th of December in Espinho. For more information visit www.solverdeseason.com.
